Password Manager XP is a database-type password protection program that works with your Internet browser to help you save all your password information.
Password Manager XP includes many of the features in our higher–ranked programs, but is a little more difficult to use.
Password Manager XP has many useful features including expiration notification and it provides a sample template to help you get started. There is an auto–fill feature, which you can access through hot keys or by right–clicking on your mouse. Unfortunately, this functionality isn’t explained during the setup process, we happened to stumble upon it by mistake.
Ease of Use:
Plan on spending some time becoming accustomed with this program. Password Manager XP works like a Window’s database using a system of folders and files to help you organize and manage your information.
Password Manager XP isn’t quite as intuitive as our top two products. If you sign in to a site that requires a login and password make sure all the appropriate data fields are filled in. Sometimes the software will prompt you to save the information but may not select to place your username in the field. Simply select the “username” field, or any other appropriate data field from the dropdown box and the Password Manager XP will take care of the rest.
However, if you forget this step and accidentally save a login screen with out a username or password just delete the entry completely from Password Manager’s database and try again. Once you get the hang of the system, it’s easy to use.
Ease of Installation:
We encountered no problems installing Password Manager XP.
Help/Support:
Our emails were answered in about a day. There is also a full user’s guide and online help.
Security:
Password Manager XP has the ability to save databases, print information and randomly generate passwords up to 999 characters long.
Summary:
Password Manager XP is a little more difficult to use than some of the other password management software in this review. You’ll probably need to wade through in the user manual before you feel totally comfortable using all aspects of the program. For a similar program that is easier to use, see our #2–ranked product, TurboPasswords.
CP Labs also offers a Windows Mobile Version and professional version of Password Manager XP.
